Description:

Travelling the “Strada Provinciale 384”, between the vineyards of “DOC Colli Martani”, you reach Collazzone, a little town has a population of about 3 thousand inhabitants; it counts a lot of little towns: Collepepe, Piedicolle, Gaglietole Casalalta, Canalicchio and Assignano, where we can see and produce the wines named Grechetto, Merlot and Sangiovese.
The principals Sites of arts and Culture in Collazzone are: the Parish Church dedicated to St Lorenzo (XIX-XX century) where are conserved some important artworks like the “Madonna col bambino”, the ancient and most important artistic work of art of Collazzone, probably dated around the XIII century; the painting of St Carlo Borromeo dated 1615, by the painter Pietro Paolo Sensini; the Crucifix (with St Michele Arcangelo and St Carlo Borromeo), the painting mentioned in an inventory of 1744 and assigned to Bartolomeo Barbini (Montepulciano, 1580/’85 - 1645); the “Adorazione dei Pastori” (Holy Crib), painting dated 1628, by the painter Pietro Paolo Sensini (Todi, 1555 ab. - news until 1632). Near the walls of the town, worth of a visit is the Convent of St Lorenzo; it was a Benedectine monastery from 1227 and after, from 1236 it was the residence for the order of St Francisco. In this convent Jacopone da Todi refuged and died on Christmas Eve 1306, comforted by Fr. Giovanni della Verna.
In the country there are other important sites like: the Castle of Assignano; the Church of San Giacomo Maggiore and Church of Madonna dell'Acquasanta in Piedicolle; the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, the Church of Madonna del Buon Consiglio in Collepepe; the Church of Santa Maria Assunta in Casalalta and the Church of St Cristoforo in Gaglietole.
